Equipping Others to Walk with the Grieving

At Beyond the Walls of Grief, we believe that everyone will encounter someone grieving the loss of a child, whether it’s a co-worker, a friend, a church member, a client, or someone within your own team. You may not think this type of loss applies to your organization, but the truth is: child loss reaches further than most of us realize.

This page exists to equip leaders, teams, ministries, and organizations with the tools and awareness to compassionately support those walking through the devastation of child loss. Whether the grief comes from miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant loss, or the death of a child at any age, your response matters.

Why Equipping Matters

  • Have you considered what you would do if an employee or team member called to say they had just lost a child?
  • Does your organization have a policy for grief-related leave or support?
  • Would your staff know how to respond when that call comes in?

For many organizations, the answer is no. We have learned that employers and community leaders are often the second people to hear about a loss, sometimes just moments after it happens.

The words and actions offered in those first moments matter. Without a plan or understanding, even well-meaning responses can unintentionally add to the pain. Common phrases like:

  • “What happened?”
  • “How can we help?”
  • “What do you need?”

How We Help

You don’t need to have all the answers, and you don’t have to create a support program from scratch. That’s where we come in.

  • We offer resources and printable materials you can give directly to grieving parents.
  • We help you understand the difference between what’s helpful and what can hurt.
  • We provide faith-based and non-faith-based options, because grief looks different for everyone.
  • And we gently remind even the most faith-centered teams: sometimes, people need space to feel before they can hear God’s comfort.

Sometimes, the most powerful support you can offer is simply this: “You are not alone. And your child will not be forgotten.”

This is just the beginning of our Equipping page. Check back weekly for new tools, conversation guides, training aids, and printable handouts.

You may not do grief support, but you can be a bridge to it.
